What Is Meganblase Syndrome? Know Its Causes, Signs, Tests, Treatment and Pictures

Meganblase syndrome is a gastrointestinal disorder that is characterized by chronic belching because of a bloating stomach filled with trapped gas. The symptoms of this disorder comprise severe air swallowing, an enlarged bubble of gas in the stomach that is formed after a session of heavy meals. This also results in bloating of the stomach, shortness of breath, and a sort of heart attack.

This disease can however be treated with changes in behavior and food habit. This disease usually arises due to the formation of large gas bubbles inside the stomach. Gas bloat syndrome or meganblase syndrome is usually present in the individuals who are operated for GERD. This syndrome is also known to causes chronic belching problems which usually happen after eating big and heavy meals really fast without a gap. Along with swallowing of food, people also tend to swallow in a large gush of air and this causes a big bubble of gas in your stomach.

This gas is odorless and vapourless and comprises of air like carbon dioxide, nitrogen, oxygen, hydrogen, and sometimes methane. This gas may also be smelly as the gas is passed through the anus and bacteria in the stomach release sulfur. They will make you feel full and bloated and trouble in breathing as well. All these symptoms would make you feel as if you are having a meganblase syndrome heart attack.

The Main Causes of Meganblase Syndrome Comprise of the following;

  • Swallowing A Large Amount Of Air while Eating Food

    Talking, chewing, and eating in large amounts at a time can result in a large intake of gas. Apart from that, if you wear loose dentures or smoke more than regular, you can swallow air. Nowadays meganblase syndrome is very common among the youth of today because they consume excess sodas and carbonated cold drinks. Some of the gas may be released through burping, while the remaining gas results in bloating and then chronic belching through the anus.

  • Decomposition Of Food By Certain Bacteria

    Carbohydrates and Sugar that are processed by the intestine and small intestines are passed on to the large intestine for absorption. The breakdown of sugar, fiber, and undigested food products releases gases like hydrogen, carbon, and methane. This can be detected in stools as well. If you have floating stools, there is the presence of methane in your stomach and this can also result in bloating of stomach

  • Dietary Habits

    Bloating of the stomach can be due to the kind of food that a person consumes. Did you know that Sugars like raffinose, fructose, lactose, and sorbitol can help in the production of gas? Beans, whole grains, and pulses thus help in bloating your stomach. People with lactose allergies also are prey to meganblase syndrome or gas-bloat syndrome. Fruits like Pear, Apple, and Peaches along with starch like potato and noodles can also cause bloating in the stomach. Soluble fibers are known to produce more gas and insoluble fibers produce less gas.
    Other conditions that also give rise to this syndrome may be certain medications, the growth of certain bacteria in the intestine and IBS.

Although having gas may be common in some cases, it can be really embarrassing and uncomfortable as well. You can prevent a bloating stomach if you can understand the symptoms and reduce the same. So what are the early signs of this syndrome and how do you detect the same? These are the early symptoms that will help you to understand that you are suffering from a meganblase syndrome;

  • A bloated stomach and abdomen
  • Frequent burping and flatulence
  • Feeling full and heavy after eating
  • Stomach cramps and nausea
  • Frequent urge to pass air Rumbling noise inside the stomach
  • Pain while bending down
  • Excessive flatus or belching
  • Excessive hiccupping
  • Halitosis or bad breath
  • Change in color of stool
  • Change in frequency of stool

Tests To Detect Meganblase Syndrome

Doctors find it really difficult to diagnose digestive problems and this kind of disease in patients. That is because gas bloat symptoms may also be the symptoms of other diseases as well. Diseases In other parts of the body can impact the digestive system as well and thus the symptoms apparent get identified as a gastrointestinal condition.

  • A thorough medical background is required to detect the disease
  • A physical examination is also a must
  • The doctor may also ask for an abdominal X-ray or colonoscopy to see if there is any abnormality in the digestive tract or colon
  • You should also keep a food diary and note down all the food eaten in the day
  • People who suffer from chronic belching would need to perform an upper GI series that involves X-ray imaging of the upper half of the digestive tract that is the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum.

How To Treat Meganblase Syndrome?

Though Meganblase syndrome can be really embarrassing, it can easily be treated and the best way to treat this disease is by controlling your diet. You should follow eating more small amounts of food at frequent intervals than eating full meals. You should also reduce your intake of fatty foods so that your stomach is empty. Avoid eating food that causes gas formation. meganblase syndrome treatment is done by having antacids that contain simethicone that can reduce belching and help in not retaining gases inside. Lactic acid in curds can also help by clearing gases. Prescription drugs can also help in the meganblase syndrome treatment.
